Poems for print can be kept in a pocket, read when and how the reader likes. Performance poems exist in the here and now

For Philip's master class: “We will look at the two ways of reaching an audience - compare, contrast and choose which suits your particular poems. Is there such a thing as a poem that is perfect for both? We will consider preparing a performance poem for publication, or a printed poem to perform - and the art of getting the voice on the page, so a reader or another performer gets the sound you intend from your script.”

Philip Gross’ latest books are Mappa Mundi (Bloodaxe, 2003) and Changes of Address: Poems 1980-98 (Bloodaxe, 2001). He also performs his poems, sometimes with music. His latest novels are Going For Stone (2001) and The Lastling (2003), both from O.U.P. After many years teaching the Creative Writing MA at Bath Spa University College he is now Professor of Creative Writing at Glamorgan University.
